December trip to ‘Ace Course’ could be Putt Craft’s last in Burnsville
by Reid Nelson
As we grow we learn and as we learn we make changes. Our latest change might be a swap of courses on the circuit. Much like we have moved on from the Golf Dome, it appears as if the Ace Course is in line for the same retirement.
It should be noted that our selection of indoor courses during Minnesota’s long winter are slim. Golf Zone, Grand Slam Coon Rapids, Moose Mountain and Ace Course are the four we’ve played on rotation for going on three years.
Golf Zone stands above the rest and while many would prefer we play this course and only this course during the winter. It isn’t feasible for the broader experience.
We return to courses like the Ace Course for several reasons.
We have limited options.
So you can track your progress.
To give you an opportunity to break the course record.
To allow you to compete at a course that might align with your skill set.
Again…limited options.
Here is what has changed in the last year and why we are considering it’s retirement.
Hole 9 - a hole that sticks out from others because of its difficulty (mainly because it has no business being a par 2) has been in disrepair for going on eight months now. This changes the strategy of the hole and doesn’t align with past experiences or data from the hole. Grand Slam appears to be in no hurry to fix this hole, just based on their actions.
Victoria Burrow. It’s coming, we are adding Victoria Burrow to the circuit. First event is currently TBD but plan is to make it there sometime this winter/spring.
Hole 18 - there isn’t a hole 18. For those who are unaware, we repeat 1 instead of playing 18. This is by no means a dealbreaker but does contribute to our decision making on whether to retire the course or not.
Going down to three winter courses isn’t ideal. Maintaining four feels much healthier for the experience.
Nothing is finalized and we don’t know what the future holds. Could this be the last event at Grand Slam’s Burnsville course (Ace Course)? It could. Matt Roalstad’s course record 33 awaits you on December 8th.
